ITOLS (INTRODUCTION TO OUTDOOR LEADER SKILLS) is one of the BSA courses Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are required to attend to earn the TRAINED emblem. With ITOLS, your classroom is the outdoors; your guidebook is the BSA Handbook;, and the patrol is the method of learning.  This course will enhance your skills and give you confidence to offer an outdoor program for your troop. ITOLS is a hands-on, fun filled, skill training program that is designed to help you become familiar with the basic camping skills required from Scout to First Class. 

OWLS (OUTDOOR WEBELOS LEADER SKILLS) while not required  to complete Webelos Leader training, if your pack is planning to take your Webelos den camping it is highly recommended you take this course.  Many of the topics offered at OWLS are similar to the ITOLS curriculum so Webelos leaders will receive credit for both courses.

  • Packing what to take and leave home
  • Nature identification
  • Leave No Trace Camping

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • SCOUTMASTERS & ASSISTANTS are required to complete this course in order to complete the training required for their position.
  • TROOP COMMITTEE MEMBERS/PARENTS planning to participate with your troop's camping program; the course is highly recommended or may be required by your troop. 
  • VENTURE ADVISERS & ASSISTANTS using high adventure or camping  programs are encouraged to complete this course.
  • VARSITY SCOUTMASTERS & ASSISTANTS  are required to complete this course to earn the trained emblem.
  • VARSITY COMMITTEE MEMBERS/PARENTS who participate in the outdoor program are encouraged to complete the course or it may be required by your Team.
  • WEBELOS LEADERS (CURRENT AND FUTURE)  this course is highly recommend to prepare you for Webelos camping.  Webelos Leaders who attend will also receive credit for the ITOLS course.

WHEN  ITOLS and OWLS will be April 19-21 2013 and again in the Fall of 2013

WHERE  Grice Scout Camp located in Alloway Township on 124 Aldine-Daretown Rd

PARTICIPANT FEE  $45.00 includes meals & materials. 

STAFF FEE $30.00 includes meals and materials.

BE PREPARED DISCOUNT (Participants & STAFF)  Receive a $10.00 Be Prepared discount  when your registration and payment is received ten (10) days before the course start date. Avoid a $5.00 Paper Processing fee by registering and paying online.

REFUNDS--NO REFUNDS within seven (7) days of the course start date. Credit will be given for the next SNJC ITOLS course.

HOW TO REGISTER    ***CLICK PURCHASE NO MATTER WHICH PAYMENT METHOD YOU USE*** 

  • You must register on-line (even when not paying on-line). If you download and register the paper registration form or pay by mail there is a $5.00 Paper Processing Fee.
  • To complete your registration you MUST CLICK PURCHASE for both on-line & by Mail payment
  • Registration is NOT complete until payment is received and must be received by the deadline date; without payment your registration will not be added to the roster.
  • Register until the day before the course but remember to earn the Be Prepared discount you registration and payment must be received seven days before the start of the course.

PAYMENT METHODS

  • BY MAIL or in-person using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Check, Cash. If paying by unit account include an authorization letter from your committee chairperson.
    • Select PAY BY MAIL and purchase your registration. .
    • Print out your registration receipt, (make a copy for your records) and then send or bring to either the Riggins or Rowan Scout Service Centers with your payment (Memo any checks #900020).
    • A $5.00 Paper fee will be charged when paying by mail
  • PAY ON LINE Use American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa or EFT (electronic check).

TEXT BOOK--The current edition of the BSA Handbook is required for the course. 

Participants should download the PARTICIPANT PACKET--a list of what you need to bring and should leave at home as well as the BSA Health History Parts A & C (DOCTOR SIGNATURE NOT REQUIRED) You must bring the health history to camp.

DIETARY RESTRICTIONS: Patrols will be cooking their meals as a a group. If you have dietary limitations send an email to the course director and be sure to list that info on your health history.
