NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING (NYLT)is an intensive week-long youth directed leadership training experience. The training is conducted by highly qualified youth staff under the supervision of adult advisers using Boy Scouts of America leadership skills and concepts. Throughout the week, the staff will be modeling the concepts and skills that are the core content of the course. The focus of each session is not only knowledge but giving the youth a "Toolbox of Leadership Skills" that prepares them for any leadership role in Scouting or in school. . COURSE DATES Saturday August 10, 2013 arrive at 5:30 PM Course begins promptly at 6:00 PM to Saturday August 17, 2013 (after the 11:00 AM closing ceremony). Participants must be present for every session and attend the closing to complete the course and receive their graduation certificate and course credit..
APPROVALS Participant must have the approval of their Scoutmaster or Crew Adviser and parents to attend the course. You will indicate these when you complete the on-line registration form. Scoutmasters must complete a Scoutmaster Skills Assessment that must be mailed to the NYLT Scoutmaster within ten days of registration.
PAYMENT is expected at time of registration. You may pay on-line with your registration using American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). You mail also mail or bring your registration to either council office and pay using check, Discover Card, MasterCard or Visa. Be sure to send a copy of your registration when bringing or sending. If your troop is paying from their account at the office a signed authorization letter must be provided by the committee chairperson authorizing the deduction.
BE PREPARED DISCOUNT- when your registration and entire fee is received before July 8 2013 you earn the $25.00 Be Prepared incentive.
SCOUTMASTERS--if your troop/crew/team send five or more participants your unit needs to send an adult leader for the week. This person will assist with staff and it is a great way to improve your leadership skills while helping the aims of Scouting. Your participation will provide you with a better understanding of the NYLT materials and help your Scouts succeed in your troop.
COURSE LEADERSHIP--the youth staff are all graduates of prior NYLT courses. Some of them have also taken regional and national NYLT staff development conferences. Many are Eagle Scouts and each has been approved by the adult staff advisers. The NYLT course director is Al Thorpe. PRINT & SEND REQUIRED PAPERWORK--before you leave this page to register be sure to print the additional forms. This paperwork must be completed within 10 days of submitting your registration. The forms are then sent to NYLT Scoutmaster Jim Roberts 24 Avella Lane Sicklerville NJ 08081. Before sending make a copy for your records.
BSA Medical Form-download the BSA medical, which can be partially completed on-line. Once you have entered your information be sure to save the form to your computer with a name of your choosing. Once saved you can then print. Medicals must be current within one year of course date.
If you are unable to attend your fees will be 100% refunded through July 8 2013--after July 8 a $50.00 cancellation fee will be charged. No refunds after July 31. Course fee may be assigned to another scout from your troop. All requests for refunds must be in writing and sent to GSC attn: NYLT Course Director.
