The Peace Light is Coming!

The Peace Light is Coming!

The Duty To God Committee is bringing the Peace Light to Garden State Council.

Peace Light is a flame of hope and peace that has been burning for over 1000 years and is brought to the U.S. in a very special way.  Each year, a child from Upper Austria fetches the light from the grotto in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. The light is carried in two blast proof miners lamps on an Austrian Airlines jet from Tel Aviv Israel to Vienna Austria from where it is distributed at a Service of Dedication to delegations from across Europe who take it back, with a message of Peace, to their own countries for use at ecumenical services throughout the Continent.  Austrian Airlines then flies the miner’s lamps containing the Peace Light from Bethlehem to New York City.  From New York City it is carried across the United States.  Scouts and Guides can then take the light on to houses of worship, hospitals, homeless shelters, old people homes, prisons, and places of public, cultural and political importance - to anybody who appreciates the significance of the "gift”.

Scouters from the Duty to God Committee are traveling to New York on Saturday, November 25, 2017, and bringing the light back to Garden State Council.

We are making the Peace Light available to anyone that seeks it.  The Peace Light will be at the Rowan Scout Resource Center - 693 Rancocas Road in Westampton -  on Saturday, December 9th at 10:30am. The Peace Light will also be available to individuals, units, districts, and fellow Scout Councils by contacting Joe Brennan at jpbrenfsa@verizon.net.  It is strongly suggest to construct a carrier built for this purpose to transport the peace light in an automobile. Instructions to construct a carrier can be found at http://www.peacelight.org/documents/Peace%20Light%20Lantern%20Carrier.pdf .The Peace Light can also be taken via an infused candle, which is a candle lit from the Peace Light, then extinguished, and then re-lit.

This is a tremendous opportunity for units to provide a service to their local scouting packs, troops, municipalities, and churches.by delivering the Peace Light to any place where this symbol of peace can be a light of hope.

More information about Peace Light can be obtained at http://www.peacelight.org/ .
