The Peace Light is coming to the Rowan and Riggins Council Offices on December 12th! This is a very special opportunity for units to provide service to their local House of Worship or Township, by delivering the Peace Light where this symbol of Peace can be a Light of Hope. The Peace Light will be available on December 12th at the Rowan Office at 10am, and then at the Riggins Office at 1pm. You can bring a protected lantern to transport the Peace Light flame to your desired location or you can can bring a new candle with you and make it an Infused Peace Light candle. An Infused Peace Light is a candle which was originally lighted with the Peace Light, and then extinguished.
This way your Infused Peace Light candle can be taken to your desired location,
and then be re-lighted at your location as the Peace Light. The latter option removes the issue of properly securing a lighted flame.
You can also join us on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport for the arrival of the Peace Light.
The Peace Light is dedicated to spreading the continuous flame Peace Light from Bethlehem across the North American continent.
Each year, a child from Upper Austria fetches the light from the grotto in Bethlehem. The light is carried in two blast proof miners lamps on an Austrian Airlines jet from Tel Aviv, Israel to Vienna, Austria from where it is distributed at a Service of Dedication to delegations from across Europe who take it back, with a message of Peace, to their own countries. Austrian Airlines then flies the miners lamps containing the Peace Light from Bethlehem to New York City. The goal is to help the light spread like the branches of a huge tree rooted in New York and spreading across the continent.
